Institute of Science and Technology Austria (IST Austria) is inviting
applications for fully funded PhD position starting in September 2016.
This position is open to applicants from all over the world to pursue a
career in science. The PhD program is typically 4 to 5 years in length,
depending on whether the student has been admitted with a bachelor’s or
master’s degree, as well as on the student’s individual progress. The
submission deadline is January 8, 2016.

Eligibility:
-Highly qualified students from all disciplines of the natural sciences,
mathematics, computer sciences, and any related interdisciplinary
areas, who are committed to pursuing their scientific career in an
international research environment, are invited to apply.
-All applicants must hold a master’s or bachelor’s degree (or
equivalent), or anticipate the completion of the degree before September
2016. Participating students are expected to be proficient in written
and oral English.

(or interdisciplinary) areas are eligible to apply: Biology, Computer

Doctoral education offers a US-style graduate school experience, in
which students are admitted to the PhD program, rather than individual
research groups, and only select their PhD supervisors after a year of
rotations and a unique interdisciplinary training program. They admit
exceptional students with master’s or bachelor’s degrees, and all PhD
students are fully-funded for the duration of their PhD. IST Austria has
a diverse and international student population, represented by students
from over 30 countries. They use English throughout the institute as
the language of instruction and communication.
Duration of award(s): The PhD program is typically 4
to 5 years in length, depending on whether the student has been
admitted with a bachelor’s or master’s degree, as well as on the
student’s individual progress.
What does it cover? PhD positions are fully funded
for the duration of the PhD, paid at internationally competitive rates.
Travel bursaries are also available for PhD students in their first year
for conference attendance.
Selection Criteria: The main criteria for the
selection of students are scientific excellence and promise, and how
well their research interests fit into the research portfolio of IST
Austria. The selection committee will review all submitted applications
based on scientific promise (70%) and background and diversity (30%).
Candidates for fields outside of IST Austria’s research portfolio will
not be considered.
Notification: Notifications to all applications and
invitations to an interview will go out around mid-February. Final
admission offers will be made shortly after the visit.
